Clopay Dealer Donates Product to Injured Iraq War Veteran

Jun 07, 2010

Clopay dealer Broten Garage Door and Gate participated in the ultimate Memorial Day tribute, joining local South Florida businesses and volunteers to construct a new home for an injured Iraq War veteran as part of the Homes for Troops Build Brigade.

Army Ranger Sgt. 1st Class Steve Holloway was seriously wounded by sniper fire in Iraq and now requires a wheelchair. The Homes for Our Troops Organization recognized that Sgt. Holloway was having difficulties moving around his small townhouse and raised funds and materials to build him a new house that allows for easier access, mobility and independence.

More than 40 companies joined together in the construction project, which was coordinated by the Gold Coast Builders Association. Broten Garage Door and Gate donated a Clopay Model 94 raised panel garage door and LiftMaster garage door opener as well as labor and installation.

Broten's VP of Sales, Ernie LaMay says, “It is because of the unselfish and patriotic dedication and sacrifice of our enlisted men and women that we continue to enjoy the freedom and prosperity of our great country. Participating in the Homes for our Troops program allows us, in a very small way, to show our thanks and appreciation to some very brave men and women.

The home for Sgt. Holloway and his family will be completed this month. The 2,300 square foot house has wide doorways with counters, sinks, and appliances that Sgt. Holloway can use without assistance.

Homes for Our Troops is a national non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2004 committed to helping those who have selflessly given to our country and have returned with serious disabilities and injuries. They have provided over 60 homes to severely wounded combat veterans at no cost. They currently have over 30 projects underway, all to benefit our troops. From the date of the "build brigade" to the handing over of the keys is approximately three months.

The organization has received many honors including being named a Top Rated Charity by the charity watchdog organization the American Institute of Philanthropy. For more information, visit http://www.homesforourtroops.org.

Family owned and operated in South Florida, Broten Garage Door & Gate (www.broten.com) is a member of the International Door Association and the first garage door dealer in South Florida to earn accreditation by the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA).
