Southern Living 2022 Idea House Opens for Tours

The Southern Living 2022 Idea House in Oriental, North Carolina is now open for tours every Thursday – Sunday, until December.

Detour off the beaten path to enjoy the laid-back charm of this scenic waterfront village.

Located directly across from the harbour, the 4,125 sq. ft. home has wraparound porches and plenty of outdoor spaces to gather and take in the views.

The 2022 Idea House is a collaboration between Southern Living, architect William Court of Court Atkins Group, builder Jordan Maroules of SLD Custom Homes, and interior designer Charlotte Lucas of Charlotte Lucas Interior Design.

Purchase tickets in advance at https://riverdunesrealty.com/ideahouse/ideahousetickets. A portion of the proceeds will go to local charities.

Sherwin Williams Roycroft Bottle Green (SW2847) is the perfect blue green accent color for a stately home in the bluegrass state. The carriage style garage doors were factory-painted for a furniture quality finish.

2019 Idea House – Amelia Island

Black and white exteriors get plenty of double taps on insta, but this picture lights up our DMs with questions about the dreamy blue garage doors on this creamy white Southern Living Idea home.

Sherwin Williams “Debonair” (SW9139) on the doors and shutters is the perfect paint color to complement the breathtaking water views.

Even though it feels like it’s part of Amelia Island’s storied history, this is definitely a “new, old house” with all of the modern amenities.

See the third garage door? That’s actually the golf cart bay Clopay built in a custom size to match the other Canyon Ridge overhead garage doors. It even has an automatic opener.

2012 Idea House - Senoia, Ga.

For its 2012 Idea House, the Southern Living team tackled a historic 1830s farmhouse renovation in Senoia, a quaint small town near Atlanta.

The reimagined farmhouse combines the regional style of the era with some new additions including a two-car garage with a guest suite above.

Designers embraced a traditional all white exterior with painted black shutters. Door shown: Coachman, Design 22 with REC 13 windows in white.

Fun fact: Senoia, Georgia's main street looks like a scene out of Driving Miss Daisy – because it is. Hollywood comes to town often to film movies and television series like AMC’s The Walking Dead.

2008 Idea House - Whisper Mountain, NC

One of the best things about living in the Carolinas is the easy access to the beaches and the mountains…no air travel required.

The 2008 Idea House is a homestead retreat near Asheville, NC.

Allison-Ramsey Architects, Inc. designed the LEED-certified home using sustainable construction methods and products well before they became the industry standard.

The home’s three-story detached “barn garage” was built using reclaimed fence boards. A private guest retreat and viewing deck are above the garage. It even has a living roof.

The Clopay Reserve Wood Limited Edition cedar garage doors were painted a custom color to match the weathered wood patina.

Can you imagine yourself wrapped in a blanket, quietly taking in the view as you take your first sips of morning coffee?
