Wink and The Home Depot Showcase the Simplicity of Affordable Smart Home Controls – From Garage Door Openers to Dimmers and More

Aug 11, 2014

Apps control our lives -- and our homes. Unfortunately, many of the products designed to make managing our homes more convenient don't always play nice together in the same sandbox.

Instead of feeling smarter, we are frustrated and confused. That's changing, thanks to hubs that knit them together.

The Home Depot has teamed up with Quirky-owned Wink to create a line of connected devices that are centralized into one place: the Wink Hub.

For the first time, one platform connects close to 60 products spanning every room in the home.

The new Wink Hub - the perfect complement to the Wink app to control and monitor all your connected devices.

Once connected, all the devices are controllable from within the Wink app. Users can set up timers, alerts, proximity settings and shortcuts. The app is available in both iOS and Android, with added compatibility for Android Wear.

For the average consumer looking to get into home automation, it’s a simple solution that comes with familiar, trusted names in home improvement.

MyQ Garage Door Opener Controls and Monitors Garage Door from Anywhere

The company set up the “Wink House” in a Manhattan loft to demonstrate the range of products that work with the app, including the Chamberlain MyQ garage door opener.

MyQ lets users to control and monitor their garage door anywhere and receive customized alerts when the garage door is open or closed.

Because the garage door is one of the most frequent access points to the home, MyQ is essential to the connected-home experience. MyQ technology lets customers check to see if they forgot to close the garage door and do so without having to drive home, open it while they are away to let people in, or just keep a closer eye on their home from anywhere.

The Home Depot created an exterior façade inside the loft to demonstrate how Wink-enabled products control the front door and garage door. Clopay’s Avante Collection garage door added a modern, futuristic edge to the environment.

Consumers with Chamberlain MyQ-enabled garage door openers or the MyQ Garage — used with their existing garage door opener—will be able to access and control their garage doors from within the Wink app.
