Clopay Doors Give Habitat Home Coordinated Curb Appeal

The Habitat for Humanity house under construction in Sidney, Ohio is starting to look more like a home for Marie Strunk and her family.

At a groundbreaking ceremony held in September, Clopay Corporation president Steve Lynch announced that the company was sponsoring the local Habitat build with a $100,000 cash donation and would also be providing a Clopay garage door and entry door for the home.

“This project is a natural fit for us as a building products company to give back to our community not only financially, but by donating our products as well,” Lynch said.

A few months after committing to the project, Clopay learned that the worthy new homeowner is one of the company’s own associates, Marie Strunk. She has worked at the Troy plant for three years.

Marie applied to become a first-time homeowner through Habitat for Humanity in 2018. Since then, she has worked over 100 hours volunteering with the organization and completing the education classes required to qualify for her own house.

She will also put 400 hours of sweat equity into the construction of her own home and pay her mortgage.

Following the groundbreaking, crews worked quickly to lay the foundation and frame the house.

CHOOSING DOORS FOR MARIE’S NEW HOME

The Clopay team used the Door Imagination System™ to help Marie visualize different garage and entry door combinations to match the home’s Craftsman style and warm, earthy color scheme.

There were some important criteria to keep in mind when narrowing down the options.

Both doors face the street and are positioned close together to each other so it is important that the design and color complement.

The home’s roof, siding and stone veneer colors had already been finalized so those tones and textures guided the color selection for the doors.

Marie is a busy working mother of three. The doors are going to get a lot of use so low-maintenance, durable construction is a must.

Initially, Marie gravitated to an insulated Gallery® steel garage door with a Slate Ultra-Grain® finish but the Slate wasn’t the right tone for the siding or the stone.

She decided on a Clopay Smooth Fiberglass entry door factory-finished in a custom paint color, Sherwin Williams “Black Fox”, and a white Coachman® carriage house garage door with Intellicore® insulation.

Both doors were made at Clopay’s Ohio manufacturing facilities, giving Clopay employees a special way to contribute to the project.

Marie was on site to watch the new garage door and front door being installed by Clopay Master Authorized Dealer® County Door Systems.

An inside perspective. Since Marie’s house is one-level with an attached garage, the polyurethane foam insulation is going to strengthen the doors, reduce noise, and improve the comfort and security of the home of year round.

Marie has so much to look forward to during the New Year as her house nears completion.

“Working on the production line, I see these doors every day and I take pride in making them right and delivering them to people who will enjoy them for years to come,” Marie said. “I never thought that I would have these wonderful doors on my own house. I’m looking forward to coming home every day and saying to my kids…my company made those!”
